When I look at the properties of this custom block when it's embedded in a form, I can see that it has 'Layout fill' set to 'Horizontal'.
Is there a way I can update this in the custom block? The Custom Type editor gives me this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<module name="Block-Custom-suburbACT" category="Custom" editable="true" embeddable="true" extends="Block-Standard" label="Suburb [ACT]">
</module>
Can't find anything about fill in any of the settings.

        Hi Lin,

        You can set the properties of a custom type using 'property' XML elements and associated attributes. The one you're after in this particular case is:

        <property name="layoutfill" value=""/>

        Which will create a new property (if one doesn't already exist) or update an existing property with the same name so that it's 'value' attribute is blank.

        This is very similar to using:

        <setproperty name="layoutfill" value=""/>

        on existing widgets to update the values of existing properties.

        All put together it will look something like this:

        <module name="Block-Custom-suburbACT" category="Custom" editable="true" embeddable="true" extends="Block-Standard" label="Suburb [ACT]">

        <property name="layoutfill" value=""/>

        <content>
        ...
        </content>
        </module>

        Hope this helps
